African American Heritage Festival
The 5th Annual Springfield's African American Heritage Festival is planned for July 31 and August 1, 2008. The event is filled with an array of activities. In past years, the festival has been held honoring prominent African Americans with ties to the city. Previous honorees include: Louis Sansberry, Ed Polin, Joe Walker, Springfield African American Veterans and athletes.
Thursday night will feature a tribute to African American educators with a panel discussion hosted by Jacqueline Austin, Director of Curriculum and Assessment for Jefferson County Public Schools. The discussion starts at 7:30 p.m. and will be held at Opera House, in downtown Springfield.
Friday night features live entertainment and food vendors downtown beginning at 6:00 p.m

Christmas Parade [ back to top ]
The Springfield-Washington County Chamber of Commerce hosts an annual Christmas Parade the first Saturday in December. With carolers, hot cocoa, and festive floats it is truly a down home country Christmas! The parade ends with Santa's arrival and lighting of the town tree in Court Square.

Independence Day Celebration [ back to top ]
On July 3rd, Springfield hosts its annual Independence Day Celebration. The celebration occurs downtown along North Cross Main Street. Live entertainment begins in the afternoon and lasts way into the night. Some past performers include Washington County native Jessica Scott Pinkston, the widely popular Juggernaut Jug Band and Wild Roses.
The parade begins around five o'clock, getting things into full swing! Several contests and games including best dressed pet and bike, watermelon eating contest, and seed spittin' contest are held periodically throughout the night. Various food vendors are also set up.
As the night winds down, prizes are handed out and a breath taking fireworks display lights up the summer night sky, which is visible throughout much of the city.

Kentucky Crossroads Harvest Festival [ back to top ]
Washington County residents celebrate fall in Springfield, KY with the annual October Kentucky Crossroads Harvest Festival.
Festivities include a chili and pork cook-off, pancake breakfast, handcrafted arts fair, regional wine competition, cooking with wine demonstration featuring a celebrity chef, 4-H Fair, 5K run, cornhole contest, gospel quartet singing, Saturday night concert, antique tractor show, parade and much more.
