Independence Day Celebration [ back to top ]
On July 3rd, Springfield hosts its annual Independence Day Celebration. The celebration occurs downtown along North Cross Main Street. Live entertainment begins in the afternoon and lasts way into the night. Some past performers include Washington County native Jessica Scott Pinkston, the widely popular Juggernaut Jug Band and Wild Roses.
The parade begins around five o'clock, getting things into full swing! Several contests and games including best dressed pet and bike, watermelon eating contest, and seed spittin' contest are held periodically throughout the night. Various food vendors are also set up.
As the night winds down, prizes are handed out and a breath taking fireworks display lights up the summer night sky, which is visible throughout much of the city.
